The Food Standards Agency recommends we eat a minimum of two portions of seafood a week. Fish and seafood consumption in the UK is growing, particularly out of home where it accounts for 18% of meals compared to just 8% in home.
…but how can we supply fish responsibly?
Leading environmental campaigners such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) recognise that removing fish from the menu will only drive prices down, forcing fishermen to catch more fish to make a living.
There is no easy solution. Our challenge - fishermen to markets to suppliers to chefs to consumers – is to make the best informed decisions each and every day. These choices have no definitive ‘right or wrong’ guidelines, but at M&J Seafood they underline our approach to business and our commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainability, ensuring we meet today’s needs while protecting tomorrow’s.
